Gainesville Square is located on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a tax allocation district, which allows developers to receive reimbursements for property taxes. The Gainesville Renaissance is a major development project that is expected to bring over $200 million in new development and construction to the area. The project includes new shops, restaurants, residential units, higher education facilities, and improved parking options.

Downtown Gainesville is undergoing a major streetscaping project, which includes decorative streetlights, benches, new trees, and undergrounding utility lines. The project is also funded by the local sales tax, which will add $13 million to the project. The project is also funded by the city of Gainesville and Hall County governments, who will add 400 new parking spaces in the downtown area.

Also, the Gainesville Renaissance, an apartment and commercial building project, is set to begin construction in the fall. The project is expected to bring 30,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor. It will also have improved sidewalks and parking. In addition to new restaurants, the building will also include a 20,000-square-foot public square. The property will also be surrounded by new public art, including a seven-foot stainless steel sculpture called “Nucleus.” The sculpture was created by Forsyth County artist Greg Johnson. More here
